Laundry Soap Recipe

1/2 bar Fels Naptha or handmade castille soap grated
1 cup washing soda (not baking soda)
1 cup borax powder

A bucket about 2 gallon size.  Grate soap and put in large pan on stove with about 6-8 cups of water. When soap melts, add washing soda and borax and stir till dissolved. Now you can remove th pan from heat. Pour 4 cups of hot water into the bucket and add soap mixture. After stirring well, add 1 gallon plus 6-8 cups of water, again, stir well. Let soap sit till it gels, about 24 hours.  You only need to use about 1/2 to 3/4 cup a load!  Cost…pennies per load!

The Day After…..Hanukkah

Posted by Pam on December 12th, 2007

Wow….am I tired!! You see, our family celebrates the Feast of Dedication - or the Feast of Lights - or Chanukah/Hanukkah :-) … we have chosen to celebrate not only the Feasts of the Lord in the Bible, and have included tis historical festival as well. What a beautiful time it was … last night with the candles all ablaze throughout the house….two menorah’s all lit up - shining their lights thru out the house …. little eyes dancing in the half lit rooms….it was so amazing……

Hanukkah Play 2007I have 6 little grand daughters….from my two favorite sons…..and this was our ‘first’ real Hanukkah - my oldest son gave the narration of how we celebrate the LIGHT of the world, how the Light was first conceived at this time and it was such a wonderful blessed time!.
I had a wonderful dinner set up with special cornish hens for each person (even the kids had an individual hen!) Not that they ate it - but they sure enjoyed acting like adults. Then we had the lighting ceremony of the last candle in the menorah … and of course one last gift to share with each other. What a blessed night….oh I said that :-)

Anyway, the meaning and closeness we shared last night was worth a hundred xmas’ put together….

blessings to all

Recipes for feeding the birds!

Posted by admin on November 28th, 2007

While searching and googling the other day - I landed (no pun intended) on this great link - it gives some great recipes for feeding outside birds on a budget. Now you can’t beat that! Be nice to the little wee flybabies outside this winter and save a few pennies at the same time.

http://www.budget101.com/recipes/id123.htm

Here’s a sample of one of the recipes:

Gourmet Bird Food Balls

2 lb. ground suet
2 C. peanut butter
1/3 C. molasses
1/4 C. bacon grease
1 lb. regular oatmeal
1 C. cornmeal
Bird feed with sunflower seeds  Have the butcher grind the suet.

Place suet in a pan and melt over medium heat. Strain into a large bowl. Add peanut butter, molasses, bacon grease, oatmeal and corn meal. Add enough seeds until mixture can be rolled into balls. Roll into two-inch balls and coat with bird feed while warm. Chill.
Place outside for the birds. If using as a gift, wrap individual balls in plastic wrap and tie with a ribbon. Attach a label indicating it is for the birds. Yields 24 two-inch balls
LOOK what ELSE I found looking for the above….homesteadi

Crafts & Crafters Get to Know Each Other

Posted by admin on October 27th, 2007

Just thought I’d get this going - this is a good place to just get to know each other.

Just a few comments about me - I’m a great nana (at least that’s what my 6 grand daughters say!), a good wife (well, most of the time…been working on it for 37 years) and a great pet owner (my hubby says he wants to come back as one of my pets!). I love gardening, learning about herbs and holistic ways of nature, studying the biblical roots (instead of man’s doctrine/tradition), and networking with others that enjoy the same things.

This blog was created because I’d like to meet other crafters in the state of Missouri and couldn’t find any other way to do it. So I’m hoping that a LOT of Missouri Crafters will find our blog, our yahoogroup and our home page - Missouri Crafters!

My favorite craft is soap making, herbal tinctures and making herb vinegars - what’s yours?
